Twitter exploded my image.. or was it more thanks to Tom Hiddleston fans

I posted an image last week and it started to gain a little traction. Likes started pinging with retweetโ€™s popping up all over the place .. the then come the quotes and followers too!

Iโ€™ve not been one to use Twitter! Iโ€™ve been adding the odd post here and there mostly posts that are auto posted via the blog/website.

A bit like this post…

Now I noticed that my numbers of website view was going up ! By the second .. any normal week would have anything from 100-1000 views but this wasnโ€™t seeming to be any normal week!

I had posted some images from the set of the Essex serpent drama just images of the film set .. btw this is staring staring Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes .. (will pop a couple of images below of what I shared)

Within the first couple of hours the web views had gone up to 400 and I had seen there was a few likes and retweetโ€™s popping up on my phone notifications.. but hadnโ€™t taken to much notice.. as I follow some very active posters ๐Ÿ˜‰

Itโ€™s wasnโ€™t until a my partner said that my phone was pinging to much she put it on silent.. that I took a closer look!

So opened the Twitter app and there was so many notifications.. people actually was liking commenting and retweeting my work .. such great comments there was over 70 likes .. now Iโ€™m used to posting to Instagram! Where it seems Iโ€™m either on a shadow ban or instagrams just blocked people seeing my posts.. as I get around 20-30 likes and the odd few comments ..

So when Twitter started kicking off I was shocked!

I looked at the website stats every hour and it was going up and up ! 600 – 700 – 800

By the end of the day there was over 1500 views to the website and the Twitter had more likes retweetโ€™s and followers than Iโ€™ve ever had!

To say I was shocked

Itโ€™s an understatement!

So may of Tom Hiddlestonโ€™s fans had liked and tweeted I thought it was only kind to thank thank all! So I wrote a post thanking them all! Said post ( check it out here )

Now I didnโ€™t think that it would bubble up again! But it did and out did the day before post! Again due to amazing fans of Tom!

Over 1600! Views to the website!

What I didnโ€™t realise was that with Twitter there is a little insights icon, that you can check to see how your post is going ! I could see there was a lot of likes comments and retweetโ€™s but I didnโ€™t know you could see other details too! It wasnโ€™t until yesterday.. (shows how often I use Twitter )

That I found the icon and started clicking through to see how my posts has done

Now I posted in the week 9 main posts ! From this blog .. some just an image others a long ish blog post ..

The more I clicked through the stats the more I got surprised! The views I was getting to me was off my standard scale !! Again being used to small numbers of impressions .. going by instagrams intake ..

I was getting around 3000 per post Iโ€™m used to 300 per post !

Then there was some big one 8k 10k

Then I see it ! The post I did thanking all of Tom Hiddleston fans, had blown up ! And was just over the 29k

๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š 29,000 impressions! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Itโ€™s the most Iโ€™ve ever had ! And to say itโ€™s made my year so far is an understatement! The amount of love support shares tweets retweet quotes and comments that must have taken to get that amount of views is astonishing!

Iโ€™m overwhelmed honestly, never could I have dreamt that it would take changing my approach to social media to get my work seen by so many people !

And to not only get seen but make some amazing new friends and followers !

So in conclusion .. when all things are going bad donโ€™t despair or give up! Just Try changing things .. do something a little different..

We canโ€™t expect to get a different result by always doing the same thing!

Lastly

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š to all those amazing people who took the time out of their day to share the love on what Iโ€™ve been posting ! Youโ€™re the kindest people Iโ€™ve had the pleasure to meet! And you really have helped someone who was in a deep dark place to realise there is a reason to live ! A reason to fight and a reason to show the world his art ! His photography!

I have so much love and respect for you all right now ! And I wish I could put into words just how grateful Iโ€™m am to each and every one of you ! Have a fantastic Easter .. stay safe ..

thanks again Adrian

My Twitter stats exploded because of amazing Tom Hiddleston fans

There it was gone! As fast as the Essex serpent set was built it was gone! along with the stars of the drama Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes, but here is a few images before it went.

Wasnโ€™t there long at all!

Itโ€™s like it was never there! Maldon town become the setting for the new six part drama โ€˜the Essex serpentโ€™, staring Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes..

Last week a couple to big tents popped up, then a number of big trucks and what seemed like 100 set workers ! set to work to put together a Victorian setting with boats, ships and what looks like a Victorian dock. With all the trimmings..

I was keeping fingers crossed that filming would take longer than just a few days and that I would have the luck and pleasure of seeing the amazing cast a crew of the drama. But life got in the way ! And I couldnโ€™t make it there to photograph Tom or Claire! In the midst of filming..

I was lucky to have got a number of set shots but the only time I could have got a shot of one of the stars the security guards got in the way so managed to get his nose haha! Not what I wanted !

Wish I could have managed to get some more chances .. would have been great to get some stars into the portfolio.. and give his fans something to look at!

Sadly I only managed to get set shots ! Like those you see above!

Just a week later I managed to get down to the quayside where filming was .. and there is was … gone! Not a dot of dust no lumps of coal or grains of salt! It was back to standard Maldon quayside!

As fast as it come, it was gone again!

Yet another lights down on filming and another film, filmed in Maldon .. .. itโ€™s great that this little sea side town has been home to so many filming sets .. looking forward to the next one! Keep eyes open

Images on the set of Sarah Perryโ€™s novel the Essex serpent. Currently being filmed by Apple TV staring Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes

These are three of my favourite images from being on the set of Essex serpent.. I really wished that I was feeling well enough to have got down to the set on the second day of shooting!

To then be able to get some better shots with the two stars of the six part drama ! Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes ! But sadly this wasnโ€™t the case!

It would have been so amazing to have had more of a chance to get some fantastic behind the scenes shots !

As I know his fans would have loved to see them!

Sorry all! But these images of the set I think would look amazing on a canvas or on a Ali dibond print !

10 things new photographers may not know 2/10

GET OUT AND SHOOT!

This ones simple getting out to shoot will reward you more than you think!

You will get to know your camera get to know the basic settings and what you like in the way of photography

See there are many things you can do just walking about the streets or in the garden with you camera just to get used to it! And the modes your camera has..

  • Macro photography
  • Landscapes
  • Portraits
  • Cars
  • Still life
  • Fashion
  • Simple street photography
  • Wildlife

These are all things you could be playing about trying it donโ€™t matter that your not using the camera in manual mode itโ€™s about learning the basics of the camera and seeing what you like ! the rest will come we all have to start somewhere!

The good thing is in the world of digital photography there isnโ€™t and problem in filling up a memory card with images to see how they look and then deleting the ones you donโ€™t like! So much better than the days of film camera when you had to take the images send them away and hope that you got the shot you think you did!

Here are a few basic images

10 things new photographers may not know 1/10

Looking or asking about camera setting!

We have all done it! Itโ€™s a learning curve!

Now you may not think this is a stupid thing to do! In theory itโ€™s not! But what new photographers donโ€™t realise unlike photographers who have been shooting for say five years is,

Unless youโ€™re shooting at the same photoshoot, at the same time with the same lens and camera mixed with the same lighting

Reading or asking for camera settings are pretty much worthless!

Iโ€™ve watched many of hours from amazing photographers showing their amazing images, showing the settings that come with the finished image.

Now this can also be a bonus if your looking at the bokeh or amount of grain in the shot but thatโ€™s evident from looking at any image!

Once again so much about photography is about the moment and working with what we have! Be that the location or the model as much as the gear used!

Most new photographers done understand that what works for Sony users differ from that of canon or Nikon for instance !

Also it could be that one user is using a full frame camera and ones using a crop sensor !

All the above would result in less light or a difference in quality, and so many other variations from they think they will get from looking at the setting other photographers have posted with their images

In conclusion, the best things to take away from seeing others work and setting is to see the benefits of what you can get if you mix those setting with the right lighting,

And then look at each of the following !

  • Look at the eyes to see what lights modifiers and reflectors have been used.
  • Look at the shadows to see where the light is coming from up down left right so on.
  • Look at the background is is in focus or out of focus this will tell you why they have used the settings if there is bokeh or depth of field then the setting would be 1.4 – 2.8 … if itโ€™s in focus this could mean that the lens has been set to f6.3 up.
  • Has any light been used at all or is it just natural lighting
  • Then if you try shooting you can pick parts and set your camera to help replicate what your taking . Set camera for back ground darkness and depth of field .. bring in subject and then add light to light the subject!

Adobe colour grade on jacks portrait includes my opinion haha

The difference that the new colour grade tool is making on images is outstanding

Itโ€™s possible that Adobe have created something will set it apart from other leading editing suits

Iโ€™ve used a number of editing tools over the years and Iโ€™ve kind of got bored with the same old ideas that everything needs to be photoshopped!

Itโ€™s such a misconception! Iโ€™ve been doing that get it right in camera and just do the basic of edit in lightroom

Now Iโ€™m a Sony shooter and to make life simple I use the send to phone Sony standard app that sends it in Raw and can be finished while out on location!

This works for so many reasons if youโ€™re with a client and you want them to see the way the finished work is but donโ€™t want to take a laptop /charger / leads and everything else including the kitchen sink ! Lightroom cc mobile itโ€™s perfect and the great part is that as soon as you edit in the app itโ€™s loading to the laptop in the studio!

Talk about the perfect mix ! Lightroom and Sony should join forces and do a deal that puts sony and Adobe users together at a great price!

Below are a couple of edits of jack

Saved out after colour grading and then returned to edit to black and white but to still have the graded mono look!
Colour graded image this to me has something a little different ! Have to say I really like the portrait of jack!

Business is first and foremost about making others happy

We get into business to pay the bills and to create something for our future!

This is true to a stage! What we donโ€™t think about is that what we do ultimately makes others happy!

Itโ€™s something Iโ€™ve just found out. The bigger picture is that for 99% of businesses is that itโ€™s ultimately making our customers or consumers happy.

Think about it like this, a baker makes cakes and you buy them to make your belly happy and that makes you feel good as the consumer but the baker is happy too because he is doing what he loves

Builder build a house with out thinking that what theyโ€™re doing is potentially making a house that will become a home for a family to grow and live happy ever after!

Itโ€™s the same being a photographer, though we capture images and we love what we do.. we are doing it to make others happy capturing your big day or taking that portrait of your grandmother who you love and want to always remember. Itโ€™s about making you happy!

Itโ€™s great that we can do what we love, while making a living yet at the same time making someone else happy!

I love that feeling of making others around me happy so remember everyoneโ€™s out to make you happy! Even when you donโ€™t know it and take it for granted

I truly hope that what I do makes those who see it very happy and that it puts a smile on someoneโ€™s face! Here are a few images that I really hope makes you smile.
